Embedded Mind Map

Here's an example of an embedded mindmeister mind map used in my class wikis. The actual class wiki pages will remain private until we sort out a structure for private and public spaces in the school's wiki, but I wanted to share the idea so I've duplicated the embedded map here.

Each week or so, I have a team of "Curriculum Reviewers" post notes to a wiki summarizing work to date. In this case, it seemed like a mind map would be the best tool for this as it shows relationships between ideas and it will allow the kids to create a family tree for the Greek Pantheon. The resulting map was created and is maintained by my Grade 7 English students.

Because it's live, the embedded map reflects changes made in MindMeister in near real time, so we avoid having to upload a new static image every time we make edits to the map. The links, either to other web pages or downloadable files are also live, so the students only have to add the linked sites or upload the linked files once--to the mind map. Finally, the map is scrollable, so now matter how big it grows, readers can move about and read it at full resoution; at the same time, the embed let's you zoom in and out to get context and see raltionships.
